Smoke alarms and a quick response were credited for a house being saved from a fire this morning in Homer City.
Indiana County 911 dispatched the Homer City Fire Department for a fire alarm activation at 2:27 this morning for a home on Division Street. Terry Gardner with the fire department said he saw flames coming from the basement when he arrived and summoned Indiana, Coral-Graceton, Black Lick, Blairsville and Brush Valley fire departments to assist. The fire was caused by a faulty furnace, and crews were able to contain it to the basement.
No injuries were reported and the woman living there was able to stay at home.
