The Altoona Curve split a doubleheader with Richmond last night, winning the first game 5-1 and losing the second by the same score. Mitch Keller pitched six innings in the first game, giving up an unearned run, four hits, and a walk while striking out four. He also drove in a run. Bryan Reynolds was 3-for-4 with a double and Cole Tucker was 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, Altoona could manage only two hits and Sean Keselica gave up four runs in the first inning. He was pulled from the game after that opening frame and the bullpen finished up.
One other minor league note, last year’s Pirates’ first round draft choice, pitcher Shane Baz, made his season debut for short-season Bristol, pitching five shutout innings in an 11-0 win over Greeneville. Baz struggled with his control, throwing only 45 strikes in 80 pitches, walking three and throwing two wild pitches. He gave up four hits and struck out one.
