Pennsylvania’s Attorney General has joined a 38-state coalition of Attorneys General that will call on Congress to take action against organized retail crime.
The letter that will be sent is asking Congress to consider legislation to provide more resources to local and state law enforcement officials and increase penalties for convicted supply chain thieves. Last year, the Pennsylvania A-G’s office launched an Organized Retail Crime Unit and this year it has had a hand in investigations into the theft of generators from Monroe County, a string of Apple computer product thefts at Target stores across the state, and a gift card draining scheme.
Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Dave Sunday said organized retail crime has contributed to financial losses totaling over $121 billion in the United States, and 76 percent of retail asset protection managers’ report their employees have suffered from violence at the hands of an organized retail criminal.
