Flu continues to hold steady in Pennsylvania, according to the recent statistics from the PA Department of Health.
The total number of flu cases in Pennsylvania increased by 1,822 over the last week to a total of 35,703 lab-confirmed cases of flu in the state. Of those new cases, 1,728 are categorized as Type A flu, while 92 new cases were Type B flu. The other two new cases were categorized as Type U or unknown flu.
For Indiana County, 15 new cases of flu were reported, bringing the total to 237. Of those new cases, 14 are Type A flu, bringing that total to 188, and one new case of type B flu was reported, bringing that case total to 49.
Four new deaths due to the flu have been reported, bringing the total to 35. Two deaths were reported in the 65 and up age group, while one was reported for each of the lower age groups, except for ages 0-18. Emergency Department visits associated with influenza-like illness has decreased slightly than last week and is currently below same week last year.
