West Shamokin eliminated Southern Huntingdon, 63-43. The Wolves led, 21-15, after one quarter and the Rockets took a run at them in the second, pulling to within one, but West Shamokin then grabbed the momentum back with a 12-3 run fueled by Trevor Smulik. They extended the lead to 21 in the third quarter, withstood a bit of a flurry from Southern Huntingdon, and finally cruised home with the twenty-point win.
Smulik led all scorers with 28 points and also grabbed ten rebounds. Bo Swartz had 15 points and Lou Swartz added 10.
West Shamokin will play at Portage on Saturday. The Mustangs eliminated the Wolves in the District 6 championship game last year and beat them, 69-64, in December at the Richland Tournament. 23-1 Portage whipped Claysburg-Kimmel last night, 80-33.
In Boys Triple-A, River Valley was trounced by top seeded Bishop Guilfoyle, 84-47. The Marauders led, 24-2, after one quarter and were in the midst of a 27-0 run at that point. River Valley was led by Andrew Baker’s 13 points and Dom Speal’s 11.
Richland eliminated Northern Cambria last night, 64-36.
With a bad weather forecast, District 6 yesterday postponed tonight’s playoff games. That pushes back the girls Double-A games to tomorrow night, including Homer-Center playing host to Juniata Valley, Penns Manor playing host to Southern Huntingdon, United visiting Bellwood Antis, and Purchase Line at top seed Bishop McCort.
