The River Valley school board will hold its regular meeting tonight, and on the agenda is the proposed rejection of an application for a charter school in Saltsburg.
The proposed Saltsburg Charter Academy School was to be placed in the former Saltsburg Middle-High School, and was seen as a way to have a school in Saltsburg after the River Valley school board decided to consolidate the middle and high school grades into one facility at the Blairsville campus.
According to a document as part of the draft agenda, the application is being denied because of the failure to supply an address and description of the physical facility of the charter school, the applicants have not shown that the charter school would offer a different learning environment than what River Valley offers, and a failure to show how the charter school would provide adequate liability and other appropriate insurance. The document also said that the applicants have not provided consistent explanation of how it will provide custodial and maintenance services or a realistic schedule to open the school, and they also provided an incomplete food service application.
The board will also look at the district’s calendar for the next school year. The proposed first day of school will be Thursday, August 25th, with the last student day scheduled for May 31st.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:00 in the River Valley High School auditorium. The meeting will also be streamed on the district’s YouTube page.
