At the PIAA state track & field championships at Shippensburg yesterday, United’s Michaela Bracken earned her second and third medals of the two-day meet, adding to her medal won on Friday in the high jump. Bracken placed fifth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles. Her teammate, freshman Maizee Fry, won a medal with a fifth place finish in the shot put. Saltsburg’s Holly Long won a medal with an eighth place finish in the 400-meter dash.
In professional sports, the Pirates lost to the Cardinals, 4-1 Saturday and will wrap up their series against St. Louis Sunday afternoon at 1:35, with the pregame show at 12:35 on WCCS, AM 1160 and FM 101.1.
The Altoona Curve erased a 6-1 deficit with five home runs to beat Harrisburg, 10-6 on Saturday. The four game series is tied with one win each, and will continue this evening at 6:30 in Harrisburg.
And, the Washington Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights kick off the final series of the Stanley Cup playoffs Monday night in Vegas. The Capitals won their last series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4 games to 3, while Marc-Andre Fleury’s Golden Knights dominated their previous series against the Winnipeg Jets, 4 games to 1.
