Spring training hasn’t even begun and the Pirates already have a major concern. Multiple outlets report that new first baseman Spencer Horwitz won’t be able to go for the start of camp when the full squad reports next Monday. Horwitz has a wrist injury that required surgery and is still in a cast, according to reports. He was acquired from Cleveland for Luis Ortiz and two minor league pitchers in December.
The team hasn’t said anything yet about Horwitz’s availability and the sources do not say when he had surgery.
The first workout for pitchers and catchers is today in Bradenton.

Three-time National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dodgers, with whom he has pitched his entire career. It’s for between $5 million and $10 million. Kershaw made only seven starts last year and had foot and knee surgery in the offseason. He is not expected to be available until June.
