The Heritage Conference went three-for-three Monday on the opening night of the District 6 playoffs. The River Valley and Northern Cambria boys won their Triple-A play-in games and the Purchase Line girls took their Double-A game. River Valley rebounded from a rough first half with a big turnaround in the final two periods to win at Bald Eagle Area.
Mark Bertig has the story.
River Valley coach Don Stitt says his team’s tough schedule prepared them to face the adversity of a double-digit deficit on the road.
In another boys Triple-A game, 10th-seeded Northern Cambria upset number seven Bellwood Antis, 58-45, with a huge second quarter making the difference. Despite not having played in two weeks, the Colts erased a five-point deficit at the end of one period, outscoring the Blue Devils 20-3 in the second to take a 30-18 lead in the locker room at the half. Bellwood closed it to within four after three quarters, but the Colts stretched the lead back out in the fourth to win by 13. Four Northern Cambria players scored in double figures, led by Zach Taylor with 17 points. Evan Wiewora had 15, Peyton Myers 12 and Ty Dumm 10. Northern Cambria will play at second-seeded Richland tomorrow night.
In Double-A girls, Purchase Line jumped on West Branch early and the Warriors never fully recovered.
Todd Marino has the recap.
Purchase Line coach Kelley Goss says her team’s fast start got them the lead, and they did not panic when West Branch made a run at them.
