A hiker had to be rescued on Monday as he tried to cross a flooded bridge over the Conemaugh River.
Indiana County 911 dispatched the Water Rescue Team at 2:52 PM for the rescue in Conemaugh Township, with the Coal Run and Iselin Fire Departments, Citizens and Mutual Aid ambulance companies and the Westmoreland Water Rescue team called out 30 minutes later. The hiker was walking along the West Penn Trail and tried to cross the Livermore Bridge between Derry and Conemaugh Townships. The bridge was flooded and the person waded into the water. A kayaker was able to make the rescue.
The hiker was treated on-scene for early-onset hypothermia and was then taken to an area hospital for further treatment.
