The Penguins start a key three-game set against Metro Division rivals tonight when they play host to the New Jersey Devils. They will again be without Evgeni Malkin, who skated yesterday before practice but remains on injured reserve.
Winners of two straight games, Pittsburgh is currently tied with the Flyers for last in the Metro Division, two points behind the sixth place New York Rangers and three behind the fifth place Islanders. The Devils are in third place, twelve points ahead of the Penguins. Faceoff is shortly after 7 o’clock, with airtime at 6 o’clock on 92.5 FM U92.
The Penguins’ Rickard Rakell has been added to Sweden’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off, the international tournament that gets underway next Wednesday and will replace the NHL All-Star Game this season. He will reportedly replace Vegas forward William Karlsson, who is injured, and will join his Penguins teammate, Erik Karlsson, skating for the Swedes.
Sidney Crosby will captain the Canadian team in the 4 Nations, and Pens coach Mike Sullivan will be head coach of the U.S. team, assisted by the Pens’ David Quinn and video coach Madison Nikkel. President of hockey operations Kyle Dubas is the director of player personnel for Canada.
