When Andrew McCutchen came to PNC Park for the first time since being traded on Friday, he was greeted with smiles and handshakes from his former team-mates and a 30-second standing ovation from the fans when he came to bat for the first time.
But the Pirates were the ones to send the fans home happy as the Pirates beat the Giants 11-2. McCutchen was 1-for-5 and struck out twice, but the Pirates had an offensive surge that lasted most of the game, starting with Starling Marte in the first with a solo home run. Josh Bell would hit a two-run homer later in the game.
Jamison Taillon left the game after the third inning with a lacerated finger. The win went to Steven Barault, who lasted one inning as part of an extended bullpen session, giving up two runs on two hits, striking out three.
The Pirates and Giants play again today starting at 6:40 on WCCS.
