The Steelers yesterday announced they had hired former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores as senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.
Flores will replace Teryl Austin as senior defensive assistant after Austin was promoted to defensive coordinator upon the retirement of Keith Butler.
Coach Mike Tomlin released a statement endorsing the hiring of Flores: “I am excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff given his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL. Brian’s resume speaks for itself, and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team.”
Flores is the plaintiff in a lawsuit against the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, and the NFL, claiming that their hiring practices are discriminatory. He was fired by the Dolphins after three seasons this year, despite two straight seasons above .500.
