Over two nights of meetings at the Homer-Center High School Auditorium, 25 municipalities approved ordinances to start the formation of a county-wide emergency medical services authority.
Prior to each municipality’s brief meeting, Rob Brady with ROBB Consulting hosted a presentation on the EMS authority and how it would be implemented, along with potential costs. He said that the biggest concern during the meetings was to debunk rumors and talk about how this authority will look.
Six municipalities decided to table making a decision on the ordinance, preferring to take it back to their municipalities to pass at their meetings. Two municipalities failed to have a quorum so they will have to re-advertise the ordinance. But Washington and White Township each voted not to pass the ordinance. County Commissioner Mike Keith said that he feels they still have concerns that need to be addressed.
Next on the timeline is to have articles filed with the state to incorporate the authority sometime in March. More information on the authority can be found online at www.futureofemsforindianaco.org.
