In the NHL, the league has upheld its suspension of Boston’s Brad Marchand.
The Bruins Forward attacked Penguins Goalie Tristian Jarry during a game on February 8th. First, as Jarry was trying to flip a puck over the glass to a fan, Marchand blocked it and threw the puck towards a referee. During the final minute of the game, after Jarry made a save and froze the puck, he apparently said something to Marchand, and Marchand responded with a punch to Jarry’s head. And as he was being escorted off, Marchand jabbed Jarry in the helmet with his stick.
Marchand claimed he should not have been suspended as Jarry was not injured by his actions, but NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman upheld the suspension. Bettman said that Marchand’s conduct was intentional, it consisted of two incidents that violated league rules even with the linesman trying to intervene, and that Marchand was a repeat offender in the league’s eyes.
Meanwhile, the Pens get ready for their game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. You can hear it starting at noon on U-92.5 FM and the U-92.5 sports channel.
