President Trump’s proposed plan to freeze federal funding could have a dire impact on Pennsylvania’s rape crisis centers.
The plan was set to go into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m., but a federal judge blocked it following backlash from many Democratic leaders.
Prior to the blockage, representatives with the Pennsylvania Coalition to Advance Respect said in a Facebook post that rape crisis centers have “been stripped of their primary funding sources,” which go towards several crucial resources, like the 24/7 rape crisis hotline, counseling services, and legal assistance.
Audia Boyles with Alice Paul House echoed the hardships brought on by federal funding freezes, citing challenges in paying debts and staff.
Boyles adds that two major grants through PCAR, a subsidy of the Respect Together Coalition and Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, are pass-through agents for larger grants which helps support Alice Paul House’s work.
