A man from Northern Cambria was convicted this week of DUI and other offenses in connection with a crash in the Commodore area nearly two years ago.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that on Monday, Dennis Ray Giradina was found guilty by a jury of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving on a DUI-suspended license and two summary traffic offenses for the incident on February 2nd of 2023. On that day, Giradina drove his car into someone’s yard and passed out behind the wheel due to an overdose of methamphetamine. Members of the Commodore Fire Department were called out at the time and had to extricate him from the car to perform life-saving procedures. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Manzi said in his statement after the trial that Giradina’s actions put a lot of people at risk and were unacceptable. He thanked the Commodore Fire Department, State Police, Citizens Ambulance and others for their work. He also encourages anyone who is suffering from substance abuse disorder to seek treatment by calling the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission at 1-877-333-2470.
