Traffic was tied up along Route 119 in Homer City Wednesday afternoon as a vehicle caught fire near the intersection with Ridge Avenue.
Homer City and Coral-Graceton firefighters were dispatched at 1:30 p.m. along with PennDOT crews and Homer City Borough Police. Joe Izzei, Jr., with the Homer City Fire Department said a four-door sedan was lost in the fire. The driver told firefighters that they were forced to pull over after experiencing engine troubles and it began to smoke before they came to a stop.
Police officers initially used multiple fire extinguishers to try to put it out, but the car was too hot and the fire was quickly spreading, so firefighters had to extinguish it when they arrived.
Route 119 South was closed for approximately 30 minutes and PennDOT crews salted the roadway afterwards to prevent any wet spots from freezing.
