Several motions hearings are scheduled for today in Indiana County Court, including one for one of the four charged in the fatal shooting at an apartment complex near IUP in October of 2020.
The motion hearing today involving 21-year-old Isaiah Moore of Philadelphia is to withdraw a motion to suppress a statement in the case. Moore is charged with criminal homicide and other crimes related to the shooting death of Jadeyn Wright in the early morning hours of October 17th of 2020 in the parking lot of the Carriage House Apartments in the 1300 block of Oakland Avenue. Police say Wright, along with Isabella Edmonds, Delmar Chatman and Terrion Gates went to see Wright for marijuana, and the incident ended with Wright shot and killed.
Also on the agenda today is an omnibus pre-trial motions hearing for 26-year-old Austin Thomas Hopkins. Police say that Hopkins was involved with an altercation with his brother last May at a home on High Street in Saltsburg when he picked up a knife and allegedly chased his brother into the street. His brother called police and was found with a minor injury after the altercation. Troopers found Hopkins in a nearby home and arrested him without incident. During a search of the home, police found a fully-loaded 12 gauge shotgun wrapped in a hooded sweatshirt along with some other items. Police later discovered that Hopkins was not allowed to possess a firearm. He now faces charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and firearm possession violation. He has been in Westmoreland County Prison since December 16th after he failed to post $50,000 cash bail.
Also due for an omnibus pre-trial motions hearing today is 29-year-old Quahir Mathis of Blairsville. He faces two counts each of simple assault and child endangerment for an incident in February of 2020. Indiana Borough Police said he and Amber Bailey allegedly beat two children under the age of four with a belt and left the children alone in their apartment on multiple occasions.
