Penguins players had the day off yesterday to enjoy the warm California weather ahead of tomorrow night’s game at Anaheim. But the hockey world was buzzing with a report by Marco D’Amico of the gambling website RG.org that president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas will hold a fire sale of players ahead of the March 7th NHL trade deadline.
That got a stormy reaction from other commentators and columnists, and even fan sites. D’Amico wrote that only Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Owen Pickering, and Phil Tomasino are considered untouchables, leading to speculation about the future of stars like Kris Letang, Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell, and Marcus Pettersson.
One potential trade could involve Anthony Beauvillier, who has given the Penguins a boost with his energy and shot-making in recent games. Coach Mike Sullivan likes what Beauvillier brings to the Penguins lineup.
The Penguins are currently 13th in the Eastern Conference and sit next-to-last in the Metro Division.
