The Pirates opened a three-game series in Miami with a 7-2 loss to the Marlins Friday night.
Miami scored three times in the fifth and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh innings. Two of the fifth-inning runs were scored on a throwing error by catcher Elias Diaz.
Chad Kuhl started and took the loss for Pittsburgh. Corey Dickerson and Diaz led the Pirates with two hits each.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for Miami.
The Pirates and Marlins play Saturday at 7:10 pm.
