The Penguins, winners of their first two games after the All-Star break, return to the ice this afternoon at New Jersey against the Devils (12:30 PM airtime on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel). The Pens opened the road trip with a 4-1 win in Boston, following up on Thursday with a 2-0 shutout win at Ottawa.
In a season plagued by injuries, the Penguins have yet another, but not to a player. Assistant coach Todd Reirden suffered a knee injury while shoveling snow last week and will undergo surgery tomorrow. He will be away from the team for an indefinite time.
While Reirden is unable to take the ice, fellow assistant Mike Vellucci will handle some of his duties along with head coach Mike Sullivan, skating and skills development coach Ty Hennes, and player development specialist Matt Cullen, the former Penguins who works generally from his home in Minnesota, will return to Pittsburgh tomorrow to help out o the ice. he will also take on some of the scouting duties for Reirden.
