Patric Hornqvist scored the Penguins’ lone goal in the third period, as the Pens dropped Game 2 of their first-round NHL playoff series to Philadelphia, 5-1, Friday night at PPG Paints Arena.
Philadelphia’s Shayne Gostisbehere scored in the first period on a power play. Sean Couturier made it 2-0 shortly into the second period. The Flyers added three goals in the third period.
Pittsburgh outshot the Flyers 35-20, and Brian Elliott stopped 34 shots in goal for the Flyers. Penguins goalie Matt Murray’s playoff shutout streak ended. Dating to the 2017 Stanley Cup finals, the streak stopped at 225:49
Hornqvist scored with just over five minutes left to avoid the shutout.
The series moves to Philadelphia on Sunday, 3 pm, for Game 3.
