After Saturday’s crushing loss to Baltimore, the Steelers enter the offseason with lots of questions, including at the quarterback position, but in a broader sense, what to do about a defense that was shredded by their last five opponents, and an offense that struggled to run the ball and throw it, too.
Coach Mike Tomlin says the string of six straight playoff losses going back to 2016 is his burden to bear.
Defensive end Cam Heyward is puzzled over the Steelers’ inability to get off the field on third down, which he says was especially evident on Saturday night in Baltimore.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth says the Steelers still believe in themselves and the entire organization, but they’re not getting the job done.
The Steelers have 16 unrestricted free agents as the offseason begins, including all three quarterbacks and a number of starters, such as running back Najee Harris, wide receivers Van Jefferson and Mike Williams, offensive linemen James Daniels and Dan Moore, Jr., inside linebacker Elandon Roberts, and cornerback Donte Jackson. They also have two exclusive rights free agents, both backups, and running back Jaylen Warren is a restricted free agent.
