The time period for political candidates and supporters to circulate petitions to qualify for the May 17th primary was put on temporary hold earlier this week. The order applies to all political races at the congressional and state level, including the Governor’s race.
The pause was put in place by the State Supreme Court as oral arguments are scheduled for February 18th concerning the Pennsylvania Congressional Map and the lines of Pennsylvania’s congressional district. The order affects all races, but will keep the primary date intact. The order did not state when the court will issue a new petition gathering period.
Earlier this week, a lower court judge recommended a new map of Pennsylvania’s 17 congressional districts. A new map must be approved as the state lost a seat due to the 2020 census.
