With 33 seconds to go, Notre Dame’s Christian Gray made a diving interception of a pass that Drew Allar intended to go into the ground and a few seconds later, Mitch Jeter kicked a 41-yard game-winning field goal to give the Fighting Irish a 27-24 Orange Bowl victory over Penn State and a spot in the national championship game next week.
Nick Singleton ran for 84 yards and scored all three of Penn State’s touchdowns.
Notre Dame will play for its first national title Since 1988 against the winner of tonight’s Cotton Bowl between Texas and Ohio State.
