It’s the Pens and Sens tonight in Ottawa, and on 92.5 FM U92. The Penguins skate against the resurgent Ottawa Senators, who have won three out of their last four games, including a win Tuesday night over Metro Division-leading Carolina.
The Penguins are 1-1 against Ottawa this season and coach Mike Sullivan says it’s always a tough game when they play each other.
Skating & Skill Development Coach Ty Hennes returned to Pittsburgh yesterday so he could work out Evgeni Malkin, who tested out of covid protocols yesterday and could potentially return tonight. Forward Teddy Blueger had been on the trip and he returned with Hennes to skate today as he continues to work his way back from a broken jaw.
You’ll hear the game tonight on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel, picking up the broadcast at 7:00, shortly before faceoff.
The Bruins’ Brad Marchand was suspended six games by the NHL yesterday and will also forfeit more than $448,000 for his attack on Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry in Tuesday’s night’s game. Marchand sucker-punched Jarry after a third period scrum in front of the Pens’ net, and then as he was being escorted off the ice by a linesman, he slashed at Jarry’s mask with his stick.
The league issued a statement in which it said, “…Jarry does not initiate the altercation with Marchand. He is on his knees after having frozen the puck and should not expect contact from Marchand in any form, much less a full-gloved punch to the side of the head.”
“We find the totality of this play — an intentional punch to the side of the head on an unsuspecting goaltender coupled with an intentional high stick delivered to the head and neck area while being escorted off the ice — unacceptable and warranting supplemental discipline.”
Mike Sullivan refused to comment on the Marchand situation yesterday.
