The annual Renda Broadcasting Teddy Bear Drive Softball/Baseball Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th at Floodway Park and First Commonwealth Field at the FMC Sports Complex in Center Township.
Weather permitting, the Homer-Center Wildcats and Indiana Indians will meet to raise money for Renda Broadcasting’s 39th annual Teddy Bear Fund Drive. The softball game will be played beginning at 3:00 PM at Floodway Park in Homer City Borough and will be aired on WCCS-AM 1160 & FM 101.1, while the Wildcats and Indians baseball teams will meet at 5 PM at First Commonwealth Field and that game will be aired on WDAD-AM 1450 & FM 100.3.
Admission donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the Teddy Bear Fund Drive, which raises money to fund child health care at the Pediatrics Department at Indiana Regional Medical Center and Children’s Hospital. There will also be raffles for Pirates and Curve tickets, Pittsburgh Zoo and other amusement park ticket. The Homer City Area Athletic Booster Club will operate the concession stand with a portion of the sales benefiting the Teddy Bear Fund Drive.
Last year, after three rainouts, the games were not played for the first time in 10 years.
“Although the forecast isn’t the greatest right now, we are hoping to play and raise money for our main charitable arm of the radio stations,” said Mark Bertig, Vice President and General Manager of Renda Broadcasting. “We realize it doesn’t look promising for this weekend, but if we are forced to postpone, we certainly will try to work with both schools to get it back on the calendar in hopes of running into a nice day. I think we are overdue.”
