Penn State rolled over Boise State, 31-14, in last night’s Fiesta Bowl. The Nittany Lions advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals, where they will play the winner of tonight’s Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame.
Drew Allar completed 13-of-25 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns, Kaytron Allen ran for 134 yards, and Nick Singleton had 87 yards and a touchdown. Penn State held Boise State tailback Ashton Jeanty to 104 yards rushing, much of it at the end of the game when the outcome was already decided. Bulldogs quarterback Maddux Madsen threw for 304 yards but also had three interceptions.
Coach James Franklin says his Nittany Lions have been patient and efficient in their two playoff wins.
Franklin was happy with his team in all three aspects of the game.
In addition to the Sugar Bowl with Georgia and Notre Dame today, the College Football Playoff games are the Peach Bowl, featuring Arizona State and Texas; and the Rose Bowl, where Ohio State takes on Oregon.
In other bowl games yesterday, Michigan held off Alabama, 19-13, in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Louisville nipped Washington, 35-34, in the Sun Bowl, Illinois beat South Carolina, 21-17, in the Citrus Bowl, and LSU outlasted Baylor, 44-31, in the Texas Bowl.
