The start of the new year this week will bring increases in electricity rates for both Penelec and REA consumers.
Penelec rates will increase 4.1 percent, with the average monthly bill for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month rising by $8.33, to $209.29.
REA Energy rates will increase about 12 percent, with the average customer using 950 kilowatt hours of electricity seeing an increase from $37.50 per month to $42.
A Peoples Gas rate hike approved by the PUC in September is already in effect, raising the average monthly bill for residents in the PNGD division to $81.85 per month and dropping the bill for the PGD division to $83 per month, based on usage of 80,000 cubic feet. The settlement also ordered the merger of the two rate districts.
