Souper Bowl 15 to benefit the United Way of Indiana County had a record day of sales for the annual fundraiser.
A total of 1,592 soup meals went out the door as part of the day long benefit for the United Way’s annual campaign. Along with donations that came in throughout the day, the final total of funds raised came to $11,610. Soup sales had reached a record level even before the day began as there were 1,400 orders for soup placed in advance of yesterday’s sales at the Hilton Garden Inn in Indiana.
There was also a competition of which restaurant had the best soup. The C.H. Fields Craft Kitchen at the Hilton Garden Inn came in first place again with their Beer Cheese soup with pretzel crouton. That soup sold 389 servings. Nap’s Cuccina Mia’s Chicken Pastina took second with 348 servings sold. Romeo’s Potato and Cheddar soup was in third place with 342. Spicy Tomato Gorgonzola, Sausage and Kale, Red Lentil rounded out the rest of the competition.
It was also announced yesterday by the United Way that the campaign was close to 90 percent of it’s goal of $654,321.90. The final total for the 90th anniversary campaign will be revealed on February 17th.
