Inconsistent play in the 2nd Period put the Pens behind, and even with a great third period to tie it up, the Pens lost in OT to the New Jersey Devils 4-3.
Sidney Crosby started the scoring with a goal at the 2:29 mark of the first period, but the Pens inconsistent play caught up with them in the second period as they allowed goals from Will Butcher, Blake Coleman, and Nico Hischier. The Pens rebounded in the third with goals from Brian Dumoulin and Phil Kessel, but in the overtime period, a goal from Taylor Hall put the game away.
The overtime loss means the Pens pick up one point. They remain three behind the Washington Capitals, who currently lead the Metropolitan Division. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in third, one point behind the Pens. Both the Caps and the Blue Jackets are in action today, as Columbus plays St. Louis and Washington takes on Montreal. The Pittsburgh Penguins play the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow, and that’s a game you can hear on U-92.5 FM starting at 11:30 with the pre-game show.
