The Pitt Panthers face one of their biggest challenges so far this season this afternoon when they visit the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State is 5-1 and Pitt is 6-1 and coming off their first loss, to Wisconsin on Sunday in the Greenbrier Classic.
Pitt will play without starting guard Damian Dunn for at least the next six weeks after he had thumb surgery this week. Dunn is averaging 11.1 points per game but his biggest impact may be on defense, where he usually draws the assignment of guarding the other team’s best guard.
Ohio State, meanwhile, could be without 7-foot star center Aaron Bradshaw and injured guard Ques Glover. Bradshaw has missed the last two games for unspecified reasons that coach Jake Diebler says are a “university process.”
Pitt coach Jeff Capel says with or without Bradshaw, the Buckeyes are going to be tough.
To replace Dunn, Capel will turn to freshmen Amsal Delalic and Brandin Cummings. Capel says they’re going to have to “grow up fast.”
The game tips off at 2:30. We’re on the air on WCCS at two o’clock.
