Before the largest crowd of the season at the KCAC, the IUP basketball teams clinched the Western Division titles, sweeping Edinboro.
Led by Carolyn Appelby’s 26 points, the women topped the Boro, 67-53, outscoring them 20-9 in the fourth quarter.
Now 24-2 and second in the region, the ladies will make their 20th PSAC appearance and will host a quarterfinal game next Wednesday. Megan Smith added 18 points and Halle Denman had seven assists and four steals.
The men will make their 31st appearance in the PSAC tourney after defeating the Boro, 77-69. Malik Miller’s steal and breakaway layup with IUP leading by just a point with a minute and a half remaining helped seal the victory .
IUP has won 16 division titles and now will also host a quarterfinal game next Wednesday night.
Five players were in double figures, including Anthony Glover Jr. with 19, Dante Lombardi with 16, Miller with 12, and Cobo Diaz and Blake Danielak each with 11.
The Crimson Hawks remain fifth in the region. The teams conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon at Seton Hill.
