The Pirates this weekend non-tendered Connor Joe, Bryan De La Cruz, and Hunter Stratton, effectively cutting ties with them.
De la Cruz was one of the Bucs’ major trade acquisitions last season, coming from Miami for two minor league prospects. Joe was a versatile infielder/outfielder who got off to a hot start but tailed off badly at the plate as the season went on. Stratton had a promising season go wrong with an arm injury that cost him about six weeks in June and July and a ruptured left patella tendon suffered in a game in early August. The team hopes to re-sign Stratton.
The Pirates have acquired right-handed reliever Peter Strzelecki from Cleveland for cash considerations. He played ten games with a 2.31 ERA in eleven-and-two-thirds innings with the Guardians last season.
