MEN
IUP started the season last week with two tough losses, but coach Joe Lombardi’s Crimson Hawks rebounded this weekend with two big wins in Ashland, Ohio. On Saturday, IUP beat Tiffin, 78-73, in overtime. Last night, they topped Ashland, 75-72.
Guard Christian Moore followed up his 26-point performance on Saturday with a 25-point night against Ashland. Kymani Merraro scored 15 against Tiffin and 14 against Ashland. IUP led by as many as seven in the second half yesterday, but Ashland tied the game at 72 before Moore nailed a three-pointer with 14 seconds left for the win.
WOMEN
The IUP women play the annual Education Day game this morning, welcoming Penn State Beaver to the KCAC in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Coach Craig Carey’s Crimson Hawks are 2-0 after wins over Salem and Virginia State a week ago. Penn State Beaver is 2-2 and coming off a 31-point loss to Bethany College on Saturday. Today’s game tips off at 11 AM.
Both IUP teams open PSAC play with a crossover doubleheader against Shippensburg on Friday at the KCAC, at 3 and 5 o’clock.
