HERITAGE CONFERENCE GIRLS
Homer-Center downed Purchase Line last night to clinch a spot in the Heritage Conference semifinals. Todd Marino has the story.
HERITAGE CONFERENCE BOYS
Cambria Heights took a firm hold on second place in the Heritage Conference East with a 54-33 win over Marion Center. At 6-3, the Highlanders are in line to finish second to 9-1 Penns Manor.
In the Heritage West, West Shamokin solidified its grip on second place and clinched a spot in the semis with a 70-52 win over Homer-Center. United and West Shamokin play each other on Monday at United, with the Wolves still having a chance to grab first place but trailing the Lions by two games, each with three to play.
United stepped out of conference to take on Conemaugh Township, a WestPac/District 5 powerhouse which brought an 11-1 record into the game, and the Lions lost, 62-50, on the road. United fell to 14-3 on the year. Jackson Ryer scored 15 for Township and three teammates each had 14. The Indians took control of the game in the first half, jumping to a 20-10 first-quarter lead and they were up 31-17 at the half. United could never close the gap.
The Lions were led by Johnny Muchesko and Brad Felix, who each scored 12, and Jacob Boring, who finished with 10.
HOCKEY
Indiana’s offense came to life last night as the Indians wiped out West Allegheny, 7-1. Sam Barley scored two goals and Gabe Nettleton and Colton Rayko each had a goal and two assists. All but one of Indiana’s goals came at even strength. Nettleton and Rayko each scored in the first period, and after West Allegheny trimmed the lead to one in the second period, Vince Belize scored for Indiana, and Barley got his first goal, a short-handed score to make it 4-1. Nate Wood, Zach Brody, and Barley then scored in the third period to set the final at 7-1.
Freshman goaltender Luke Rowe stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn the win in net.
