Steelers’ outside linebacker TJ Watt yesterday was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America. His stats certainly warrant the honor. Not only did he tie the NFL record for sacks in a season, with 22-and-a-half, but he also led the league with 21 tackles for loss and quarterback hits, with 39. He also forced five fumbles and recovered three.
The AP defensive player of the year will be announced on February 10th.
The Steelers yesterday signed punter Cameron Nizialek to a reserve/futures contract. He’s been with the Ravens, Jaguars, and Falcons, but has never kicked in an NFL game.
