The pace of influenza infections in Pennsylvania continues to slow down as the flu season progresses.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported that so far this flu season, there have been 30,106 lab-confirmed flu cases, an increase of 1,631 cases from last week. The number of new cases reported last week across the state was 2,332. 1,465 of the new cases are Type A flu, bringing that total to 27,597. 165 cases were Type B flu, making the new total 2494. The state has also marked 15 cases Type U flu for the flu season so far.
In Indiana County, there are now 191 flu cases, an increase of only five cases over the last week. The type A flu count for Indiana County went up by four over the last week from 139 to 143. The type B flu count went up by one to 48. No cases of type U flu have been reported.
The number of flu-related deaths across the state increased by seven to a total of 23 so far for the flu season, but the number of emergency department visits across Pennsylvania for flu-like illnesses decreased slightly over the last week. These stats represent only lab-confirmed flu cases. There may be many more, as people may not have gone to the doctors to get tested for flu or the doctor did not test for flu.
