The Steelers made two moves prior to the NFL’s Trade Deadline on Tuesday, acquiring wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets and edge rusher Preston Smith from Green Bay.
Going back to New York is a 2025 fifth-round pick, while Green Bay receives a seventh-round pick.
Williams has 166 yards and no touchdowns on 12 receptions this year. He signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Jets in the offseason, but became a major trade chip once they acquired Davante Adams from Las Vegas. The Steelers will inherit a $627,500 cap hit for the rest of the year, according to Spotrac.
Smith is under contract for the next two seasons but carries a $12.6 million cap hit. Despite that, he’s been one of the most proficient edge rushers in the NFL since 2021 with 28 sacks, 158 pressures, and 58 run stops.
