Metro Division games, starting tonight with a visit to the New York Islanders. The Pens are 5-7-1, good for 11 points, with the Isles a point behind them at 4-6-2.
Sidney Crosby has led the Pens with two goals in each of the last two games and he is now just a hat trick away from 600 career goals. Adding to his chances tonight is the fact that Crosby has scored more points against the Islanders than any player in NHL history except for one…Jaromir Jagr. Crosby has 41 goals and 93 assists, totaling 134 points against the Isles in 86 career games. Jagr scored 155 in his career against the Islanders.
Coach Mike Sullivan says Crosby continues to cement his NHL legacy.
At Penguins practice yesterday, Sullivan switched up his line combinations again, putting Cody Glass on the second line centered by Lars Eller. Drew O’Connor was on the other wing. Noel Acciari was moved to third line center and Jesse Puljujarvi played right wing on that line.
Sullivan says Cody Glass is playing well but not getting points, so he hopes playing in the top six will give him more opportunities.
Sullivan said injured forwards Bryan Rust and Matt Nieto will travel with the team on their road trips this week. Both skated yesterday, Rust on his own and Nieto with the team.
Tonight’s game faces off at 7:30. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 is at 6:30.
