Indiana County’s schools continue to battle the covid-19 virus and nowhere is it more evident than at Indiana Area, where Superintendent Michael Vuckovich write in his latest update that there were 79 new positive cases last week, going back to Friday the 14th of January. Thirty-one of the cases were at the Senior High, 27 at the Junior High, 10 at Ben Franklin Elementary, six at Horace Mann, and five at Eisenhower. Seventy-five of the cases will be part of the district’s rolling 14-day average count. Twenty-one additional students and staff were placed in quarantine.
Vuckovich also writes that a new column has been added to the Indiana Area Covid Dashboard, reflecting the percentage of personnel at each building who are infected. That will help people see how close the building is to requiring a closure or other action. The Senior High has the highest percentage at the moment (5.52 percent), followed by Ben Franklin (5.13 percent) and Horace Mann (4.98 percent).
Universal masking is currently required in all of Indiana Area’s buildings.
River Valley’s 14-day rolling count shows 25 cases at Saltsburg Elementary, 21 of them students. There are nine cases at Blairsville Elementary, six of them students; eight cases at the high school, six of them students; and four cases at the middle school, one of them a student.
Marion Center on Friday reported 11 cases at the high school, four at McCreery, and two at Rayne.
