The Penguins are back home after a frustrating 0-4 western Canadian road trip, extending their losing streak to five games. They will welcome Marc-Andre Fleury and the Minnesota Wild to PPG Paints Arena tomorrow night.
After blowing a 2-0 lead and losing 4-3 to Vancouver on Saturday, coach Mike Sullivan resorted to a football analogy, saying they are making a lot of mistakes “at the line of scrimmage”, losing track of the fundamentals and making bad decisions. They gave up three goals in 65 seconds of the second period.
Sullivan says the Penguins know what needs to be done to break out of the slump.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson was particularly bad on Saturday night, victimized on three of the Canucks’ goals, especially one by former Pen Daniel Sprong. Sullivan says Karlsson and all of the Penguins need to be better.
The Penguins’ situation might be even worse than a five-game losing streak. Forward Byran Rust is being evaluated for an upper body injury and his status for tomorrow night is unknown.
