After appearing in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament last year, IUP was picked third in the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday.
Coach Craig Carey is back for his third season at IUP and welcomes eight newcomers to the squad, along with returners Grace Centrulla, Janeira Scott and Nyshae’ Weaver. The Hawks went 21-8 overall and 17-5 in the PSAC last season, earning a spot in the national tournament which was brought to a halt by third-seed Fayetteville State in the opening round. IUP excelled on the stat sheet last year, finishing first in field goal percentage and steals per game.
Carey said during the conference’s virtual media day that this year’s team has what it takes to contend for a PSAC championship.
Gannon and Cal finished atop the west poll, while Lock Haven was the favorite in the east.
IUP opens its season November 9th against Winston-Salem at the KCAC.
