There is Thursday Night Football in the NFL tonight with the Vikings visiting the Rams. But the action tonight also includes the Pitt Panthers, back on the field to play Syracuse after having last week off.
Both teams are off to great – and surprising – starts. The Panthers are 6-0 (2-0 in the ACC) while the Orange are 5-1 (2-1 in the ACC). Pitt will honor former Panther and NFL great Larry Fitzgerald before the game at Acrisure Stadium.
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi appreciates the extra time off to prepare for the game.
It will be a matchup of two highly-regarded transfer quarterbacks, former Alabama QB Eli Holstein for Pitt and Kyle McCord for Syracuse, who started for Ohio State last year and is second in the nation with an average of 360 passing yards per game. McCord’s completion percentage is 65.6 and he’s thrown nineteen touchdown passes with just six interceptions.
Narduzzi says McCord will be playing in the NFL someday.
McCord’s top receiver, Trebor Pena, is questionable tonight with head and leg injuries suffered last week in a win over NC State.
Tonight’s game is on WCCS, with the pregame getting underway at 5:30, kickoff at 7:30.
