The Penguins looked like they had a win until just seconds were left in the game. Then they had to settle for a shootout loss. Here’s Paul Steigerwald.
Coach Mike Sullivan liked the effort from his Penguins.
Sullivan says his veteran power play unit is giving up too many short-handed chances.
Alex Ndeljkovic was solid in goal again, especially on breakaway chances. He stopped 22 of 25 shots in regulation. Sullivan appreciated his demeanor in net.
In addition to Noel Acciari, the Penguins got goals from Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell. The Flames outscored the Penguins, 3-2, in the shootout, with goals by Anthony Mantha, Rasmus Andersson, and Justin Kirkland. The Penguins’ shootout goals were scored by Rakell and Rust, but Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, Lars Eller, and Evgeni Malkin were stopped.
The Penguins skate at Edmonton on Friday night.
