The Penguins shook up the lineup for yesterday’s game at Winnipeg, and it appeared to be working as they took a 2-0 lead, but the Jets surged back, and turned a 3-3 second period tie into a 6-3 win. It was the Pens’ second straight loss and another poor defensive effort. Not even Alex Ndeljkovic’s return in goal could help. He faced 36 shots on goal, making 31 saves.
Penguins goals were scored by Kevin Hayes on a first period power play and Lars Eller, who scored twice.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins are not taking care of business on defense.
Sullivan says the Penguins were much more into the game than they were in Friday’s lazy game against Carolina, but it wasn’t good enough.
Tristan Jarry was a healthy scratch for the Penguins and Joel Blomberg dressed as the backup. Forward Michael Bunting and defenseman Jack St. Ivany were the other healthy scratches.
Ndeljkovic says the three-goalie situation is unusual, but he just has to be ready to do his job when called upon.
The Penguins skate at Calgary tomorrow night.
