One year after United ended Marion Center’s 13-year run as Heritage Conference cross country team champions, the Stingers reclaimed the crown in the conference championship race on Thursday at Marion Center Park.
Marion Center’s top five finishers totaled 36 points, a 28-point advantage over United, which took second place. Cambria Heights (86), West Shamokin (91), Portage (106) and River Valley (129) rounded out the top six teams.
Brooke Slade led the Marion Center effort with a third-place finish and a time of 20:44.5, with teammates Macie Miller (5th), Claire Hood (6th) and Samantha Case (8th) also finishing in the top 10. Savannah Hoover of Cambria Heights won the individual championship with a time of 20:24.3.
In the boys’ race, Colton Henning repeated as the boys’ champion for United. Teammates Matthew Beaver and Luke Shepler took second and third, respectively, as United repeated as boys’ team champions with 33 points.
Marion Center (54), River Valley (94), Purchase Line (96), Portage (120), Cambria Heights (128) and West Shamokin (168) rounded out the boys’ standings.
