Linebacker Alex Highsmith returned to Steelers practice yesterday but was limited. He is recovering from an injured groin and said he is “really, really” optimistic about playing on Sunday against the Jets. Tight end MyCole Pruitt was a full participant. Running back Najee Harris was sidelined by a rib injury, which was a new listing for him.
Center Zach Frazier, linebacker Nick Herbig, utility man Cordarelle Patterson, and safety Damontae Kazee were all out. Herbig and Frazier are already ruled out for this Sunday.
Quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both took first team snaps, and we still don’t know which will start on Sunday.
Tackle Dan Moore Jr. says their assignment will be the same no matter who is at QB.
Ryan McCollum will start in place of Frazier at center. McCollum played well last week in Vegas and says the offensive line stays connected regardless of who is on the field.
As expected, the Steelers yesterday re-signed outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji to the practice squad to replace Jacoby Windmon, who was signed to the Carolina Panthers’ active roster. Rookie linebacker Craig Young was also signed to the practice squad.
Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said yesterday that newly-acquired wide receiver Davante Adams will play Sunday against the Steelers.
