After dropping two of the first three games, the Penguins are back on the ice in Canada tonight, facing off with the Montreal Canadiens at 7:30. We will pick up the pregame at seven o’clock after Hawk Talk on 92.5 FM U92.
The Pens lost to Toronto, 4-2, on Saturday. Joel Blomqvist was the surprise starting goaltender and stopped 29 of 32 shots. Coach Mike Sullivan says not to read too much into Blomqvist starting instead of Tristan Jarry.
The coach also hinted that Jarry’s regular backup, Alex Nedeljkovic, is close to returning from injured reserve.
Rickard Rakell scored one of the Penguins’ two goals on Saturday. Sullivan says Rakell’s off-season work to add more speed to his game is noticeable…and effective.
The Pens will return home to PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday against Buffalo and Friday against Carolina. Then it’s a four-game western road swing to play Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver next week, starting on Sunday afternoon.
